Step into the beautiful depth of BLUE with September’s edition of Spectrum Stories – A Year Through the Colour Wheel.
This month we explore the incredible versatility of the blue spectrum — from soft powder and sky blues through denim, steel and Prussian blue to deep, inky navy tones. Cool, expressive and wonderfully layered, September is all about discovering just how much variation can exist within one colour family.
Throughout this month’s creative journey, we’ll build our pages using layered foundations, collage, paint, mark-making, pattern and texture, combining different shades and values of blue with crisp black and white details to create contrast and depth.
Blue can feel calm and reflective, bold and graphic, weathered and grungy, or deep and dramatic. September gives us the freedom to explore all of these personalities as we continue building our Spectrum Stories journal.
Expect painterly marks, organic circles, grids, distressed details, abstract imagery and beautifully layered mixed-media elements. We’ll experiment, build texture and allow each layer to become part of the story rather than striving for perfection.
As always, Spectrum Stories is about more than colour. It is about slowing down, creating intuitively and allowing our art to hold pieces of our own story.
Each month adds another chapter to our evolving journal as we make our way around the colour wheel — and September brings a wonderfully cool, rich and expressive chapter in blue.
